Four year’s ago my mother in law told me that the making of Easter bonnets was as UK Easter tradition. Having married into a British family, and being a new mum looking at Littlen’s very first Easter, I jumped at bonnet making with gusto.

Littlen and I have been making annual Easter bonnets ever since. It is entirely possible that my MIL and SILs haven’t. ๐Ÿ˜… Turns our our ‘adopted’ tradition is a firm favourite of mine and the cupboard in my MILs guest bedroom now houses a fetching collection of Easter bonnets that we add to each year. ๐Ÿคฃ

With the whole lock down, and emptying shelves, I held off buying craft materials for a while. However, when Aldi put out a complete pack at 45p, they had to be had!

Here they are:

If you too would like to try your hand at bonnet making you will need:

  • A hat for crafting (in the UK, Poundland type ships will sell them a plenty at this time of the year)
  • Easter themed decorations, for example the paper grass, colourful foam eggs, paper flowers, Easter chicks – what ever inspires you
  • A glue gun and corresponding glue sticks. To be handled by adult as the glue will be hot and could cause burns. Being a newbie, I got a little, simple set from Tiger

Collate your materials. Pre-craft or assemble decorations where needend and set up a work place where you have space, access to power and where you can handle the glue gun safely.

Then have fun with it! Discuss the placement of each decoration with your kid and let them be the artist. If you are anything like me though, get an extra hat for yourself ๐Ÿ˜‰

Here are this year’s bonnets โค

If you end up making some too, please share with up on our Facebook page or tag us on Instagram.

Happy Easter and Stay safe, Noa xoxo
